Know Before Your Go. Tips for Stargazing:

Location & Weather

It’s important to find a great spot for stargazing, especially where it’s dark and making sure you have a clear, cloudless sky. For perfect views try relaxing under the stars in the rooftop hot tub here at Red Wolf Lodge at Squaw Valley, or try a snowshoeing adventure away from the city lights.

Download a Stargazing App

If you own a smartphone there are a lot of great free apps available for both iPhones and Androids that can enhance your stargazing experience. For most apps you can simply raise your phone to the sky to help you locate where each constellation is, including planets and other galactic finds. We recommend apps like Star Chart (iOS/Android), NASA App (iOS/Android), Night Sky (iOS), or Sky Map (Android).

Telescopes or Binoculars

A telescope is ideal for stargazing to get an up close look at the cosmos, but if you’d like to enhance the stargazing experience without the big investment try binoculars.

What to Bring

To ensure a cozy, comfortable stargazing adventure be prepared for Tahoe’s chilly nights. If you’re not viewing the night sky from a hot tub we suggest bundling up with a thick jacket, or bring a sleeping bag or blankets so you can lay back and watch the night sky as you play ‘I spy’ with the stars.
